This project was featured in the 2020 LHBA Virtual Parade of Renovations. See the Media and publications section of the website for the video. When the owners of this project first came to us, they had a Log Home kit that they wanted assembled, and during the first meeting we looked at the drawings for the first-floor family room and the patio doors to the back deck were just a couple of regular sliding doors with a post in the middle. When I asked why they did not have the entire wall “open up” they said they were told no one could make the door to do that. I laughed and said there is a company right here in London that makes that corner door.
So we went to Synergy Windows & Doors and found EXACTLY what they wanted and from there we re-designed the entire house to give them what they wanted, not a set of standard plans to be modified but CUSTOM plans based on their wildest dreams. The Syngery door system is 15 ft wide with a 7 ft return, the doors are 8 ft tall opens the back of the living to a large back porch to extend their living space into the forest.
That included floating stairs suspended by glass walls, a chef dream kitchen, custom pantry, a herb and vegetable grow room, a master retreat and Ensuite to die for, an upper floor 400 sq ft patio with amazing views, Glass railing system, complete with bar and hot tub, each of the 4 bedrooms have an Ensuite, and lets not leave out the family fur balls the dogs have 2 custom water bowls, cabinetry built in eating stations and a dog spa.
The design was beyond custom, and items like the stairs took more than one local company to pull together, the treads were milled from logs off the property by Black River Timber framing and the three laminated glass panels that suspend the treads were from London Glass and Mirror, and assembled by London’s best carpenter Randy McCulloch to give the home an amazing WOW statement as you are welcomed in the front door. The 48” fireplace with stone façade gives the rustic log feeling the clients wanted, not to mention a tree surrounding a structural steel post (everyone has that), and live edge accent walls and shelving throughout.
The Kitchen has so many custom built-in appliances we had to bring in a 400-amp service. The home was designed around the client’s desire to entertain large groups, but at the same time the requirement for everyone to feel comfortable. The cabinetry in the kitchen, butler’s pantry(S), bar areas, bathrooms and closets all were designed with the clients every wish in mind and every detail was included in our custom wood shop.
The wall and floor tile are a stunning!!!!!! 24”x48” tile, was used on the main floor “working area” the main floor Ensuite and powder room, and master Ensuite. Each bathroom is equipped with lighted Fleurco Mirrors, Toto Veil toilets, Riobel shower systems, a a Kohler, custom Ensuite shower system. You know the drill, custom quartz from Coni Marble throughout the home, heated floors, a LVP rustic dog friendly wood look flooring through the main areas.
We consulted Myra Tuer for input on the exterior. The exterior of the home is Maibec horizontal siding (modern profile 6” brushed face 058Coastal charcoal and 059 Ocean spray, combined with large flat Artic white riveted Hardie Siding panels, and Permacon renaissance “birch bank” 12 by 24 stone. The home has modern projected roof lines for interest, front and back balconies, (weather deck style “birch plank”), modern exterior doors, Black windows from Gentek, however the custom front ad sliding pivot doors and 18’ horizontal windows were from London’s Synergy Windows and Doors.
Let us make your dreams a reality just like these clients. You do not deserve a standard plan with a couple minor changes, your home should reflect you and your lifestyle, not a modified plan of the house down the street.
